Ella
Hill walks, tea fields and the Nine Arch Bridge.
Ella is a small town with cafes and places to stay along its busy main street. The hills around it are the reason to come. A short distance from town, the views open out over tea fields, wooded slopes and deep valleys.
Little Adam's Peak is a popular walk for views across the hills. The Nine Arch Bridge is another well-known stop, where the railway curves over stone arches between the trees. You can visit both during a stay and still leave time for a slow lunch or an afternoon looking out over the valley.
The photos show the open hills around Ella as well as activities such as a swing and ziplining. You can choose how active you want the day to be. A viewpoint walk may be enough, while others may prefer to add an organised activity between meals and time in town.
Ask about access, prices and any restrictions before setting off for an activity. For the hill walks, carry water and allow time to stop along the way. The views are often best enjoyed with a little time to sit, rather than taking one photo and heading straight back.
Wear walking shoes and expect some muddy patches after rain. Keep clear of railway tracks when visiting the bridge. If the hills disappear into mist, take a break rather than rushing to the next viewpoint; the weather can be part of the day here.
