DISCOVER SRI LANKA

Tangalle

Palm-lined beaches and quieter stays along the south coast.

Tangalle is a coastal town in southern Sri Lanka, with beaches and small places to stay spread along the surrounding shore. It suits a few days with fewer plans: a walk on the sand, a meal near the sea and time to rest in the shade.

The coast around town includes long open beaches and smaller bays. Where you stay makes a difference, so think about whether you want restaurants nearby or somewhere more tucked away. You can explore a few neighbouring beaches or spend most of your time close to your hotel.

The coastal photo shows how sandy bays and rocky points sit close together. A short outing can give you a different view from the beach near your room. Ask about access before heading to a place you have only seen from above.

The gallery also includes a garden entrance and a turtle encounter. Treat these as ideas to discuss when planning, since locations, travel time and sea conditions matter. You can choose one outing and still leave most of the stay for the shore and a slower daily routine.

Some stretches have strong waves and currents, so ask locally before swimming. A quiet beach is not always a safe place to enter the sea. Tangalle can be a restful stop after the hill country or a safari, before continuing west along the coast.
